"Two Great Meetings in One Evening"

Last night the Commission and City Manager held a work session at the Key Board Room with John and Carol Nalbandian as part of a motivational seminiar. I was only able to attend for about 45 minutes of the 2 1/2 hour presentation, but what I did get to see I was very impressed with. Mr. Nalbandian used some very good examples of the necessity of an effective commission to listen to everyone, including those whom opinions differ, and to be responsive. He also explained how deliberation over issues is important and vital. I noted in particular his example that "divide and conquer politics" are never constructive for either side of an argument, and that "being able to shake hands after the meeting" is important. Agreeing to disagree politically in essence.
At around 7pm the work session took a break so I had just enough time to arrive at the CAC meeting at Buck Run. It was encouraging to see a couple of new faces there. We discussed what issues have been brought forward from the CAC membership and what path lies ahead. It was a very relaxed atmosphere and many took part in the conversations.
All in all it was 3 hours spent at two different meetings that left me feeling very encouraged and optimistic. So optimistic in fact that I wonder if we could just get all involved in the same meetings, at the same place, with the same results!
